It marks the return of Hoogasian Flowers involvement in the downtown of San Francisco. It is a precursor of a renewed retail presence in the area. Our historic flower stand at 250 Post Street stands ready to again provide the area with quality products from our company.

On Saturday evening, January 17th, Harold Hoogasian (President of Hoogasian Flowers, Inc.) was honored with induction into the Bay Area Master Florists Hall of Fame as Retailer of the Year for 2009. More on Carnations

Every flower has a history and every flower and every color symbolizes something. The general meaning of the Carnation is love, fascination, and distinction. Light red carnations, for example, are often used to convey admiration, whereas the dark red version expresses deeper sentiments of love and affection. White carnations are associated with purity and luck, and pink carnations are often given as a sign of gratitude.
Carnations got the name Dianthus from two Greek Words - "Dios", referring to the god Zeus, and "anthos", meaning flower. Carnations are thus "The Flowers of God".
The single flowers of the Carnations species, Dianthus caryophyllus have 5 petals and vary from white to pink to purple in color. Carnations are flowers appreciated for its ruffled appearance, clove-like scent, and extended blooming period.

January Birth Flower
The carnation is the January birth flower. Carnations have been cultivated for the last 2,000 years. Originally from the East, these hardy and fragrant flowers have the flower meaning of pride, beauty, fascination, love and distinction. This January birth flower is derived from Greek words that mean "flower of the gods". The carnation has many meanings depending on the color it takes. A white carnation has the flower meaning of friendship, a pink one romance, red carnation for love, striped carnation for refusal and yellow for disdain. On Mother's Day wear a pink carnation to honor a living mother, or a white carnation to remember a mother that has passed on. The carnation is a very ornamental plant.
